Is Robert Griffin III back?
Head Coach Hue Jackson and the Cleveland Browns. Jackson is a quarterback whisperer. And quarterback RGIII is phenomenally talented with a big arm and running ability. So this combination has the potential to revive the Browns and RGIII’s career.
This offseason, Jackson had him work on his throwing mechanics with throwing guru Tom House. When RGIII got to camp, Jackson started to reboot his brain to play like a winning quarterback. Point No. 1 is to protect himself because teams don’t win without their starting quarterbacks.
That means don’t hold the ball too long in the pocket and slide at the end of running the ball. Throwing the ball away helps with that and with throwing costly interceptions too. But at the same time, Jackson wants to use his arm and his legs to get him back up to a high level of play.
Looking at the Browns’ first two preseason games this year, you can see RGIII still has work to do. But he is using the deadly accurate deep ball and running ability that makes him so dangerous. In the first game, he completed a 49-yard pass to receiver Terrelle Pryor against the Green Bay Packers.
In the second game, against the Atlanta Falcons, he threw a 50-yard TD to Pryor and a 29-yard TD pass to tight end Garry Barnidge. Also in the second game, RGIII had a 22-yard run. And he slid at the end of it to show that he’s learning to protect himself.
He’s even throwing the ball away to avoid being hit and interceptions at times. But he did throw an ugly interception in the first game and held the ball too long at times. RGIII doesn’t even have his two best receiver right now so things are looking up.
