The Buffalo Bills cut Karlos Williams!

The move is surprising when you consider the promise the 2015 fifth-round showed last year. The safety-converted-to-running back rushed for 517 yards, seven TDs, and 5.6 yards per carry. He also showed that he can catch the ball out of the backfield with two TD catches.

With his all-around skill-set, Williams looked like he would eventually  LeSean McCoy. But then came the offseason, where the Bills found out more about who the person is. Williams did not train during the offseason to build on last season’s success.

He reported to training camp woefully overweight and blamed his fiancee’s pregnancy as the reason. He was also suspended four games for a violation the league’s substance abuse policy. It’s hard to trust a player that earns two strikes against him in his first offseason.

So the Bills acquired Reggie Bush, who’s similar to McCoy, in free agency this offseason. He and a bunch of other running backs moved ahead of Williams while he was on the PUP list. Williams finally passed his physical this week, but it’s too little too late.

The Bills will play their second preseason game Saturday then comes the third, the dress rehearsal, the following week. That’s not enough time for Williams to get back in the swing of things and compete for his spot. So the move the Bills made is justified.

Williams is talented so hopefully, he learns what he needs to learn from this and can catch on somewhere else. All he has to do is stay in shape and leave that bud alone.
