Denver Broncos’ Quarterback Battle Takes a Turn
The Denver Broncos aren’t quite set at quarterback!
The team brought Mark Sanchez in via free agency to settle the position this offseason. So job was originally his to lose until youngster Trevor Siemian emerged in camp. But now, the job is starting to look more and more like it’s Siemian’s to lose.
The Broncos are going into the third preseason game, the dress rehearsal, and Siemian will start. As the starter of the third preseason game, Siemian would have to play badly to lose the job. As any quarterback battle usually goes, if it’s close, go with the youngster.
Sanchez started the first preseason game for the Broncos and looked okay. He was 10-of-13 for 99 yards with a touchdown and an interception for the game. Meanwhile, Siemian was 7-of-12 for 88 yards and didn’t throw a touchdown or interception.
Then in the second game, Siemian started and completed 10-of-14 for 75 yards with a pick six. The pick six left Sanchez a chance to put a stranglehold on the position but he didn’t capitalize. He went into the game and made two mistakes, losing two fumbles.
Sanchez didn’t throw a pick like Siemian did but a turnover is a turnover and he had two of them. Add to that the fact that fumbling (butt fumble) is what he’s most known for in the NFL. And again, if a quarterback battle is close, it will go to the younger player.
However, Sanchez must stay ready because Siemian may not play well in the third preseason game or later on.
