Josh Gordon is one of the more polarizing NFL players thanks to his elite skills set coupled with major off-field problems.

The Cleveland Browns have been extremely patient with Josh Gordon having stuck by him after multiple suspensions. Their loyalty might be more about not wanting to see him turn things around and be a star with another team.

This is something that will continue as the Browns are turning down trade offers for Gordon. ESPN’s Adam Schefter has reported that multiple teams have spoke with the Browns about trading for the troubled receiver.

Cleveland is in a tough situation and has to be at least considering some of the offers. It’s hard to trust that Gordon can stay out of trouble and on the field. Depending on the offers, the Browns might want to jump at the chance to get something before he’s suspended again.

The other side of things is that they’ve put a lot of time into trying to get Gordon on the right track. He’s a special talent who could be a major difference maker if he’s able to get his personal life in order.

Cleveland also needs to listen to new head coach Hue Jackson who will likely take a major role in trying to keep Gordon focused. Jackson spent the past few seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals who did a great job taking troubled players and helping them stay out of trouble.

The best example of that is Adam “Pacman” Jones who turned over a new leaf in Cincinnati and has even been a speaker at events held for NFL rookies.

Either way, the Browns are looking at a gamble and how they play this out could have a major impact on the future of the franchise. Unfortunately for the Browns their recent track record doesn’t create optimism that they’ll make the right decision.
