What’s wrong with Nick Chubb’s knee again?

In my Top 2017 Running Back Draft Prospects, I had Chubb as my No. 1 prospect. from And the Georgia Bulldog is making me right with a big-time performance against the North Carolina Tarheels. Saturday night, he had 32 carries for 222 yards and two TDs.

That was his first game since tearing multiple ligaments in his knee last year. Many had him off of their Heisman Trophy and 2017 first-round radars. But Chubb’s performance was better than all of the leading candidates and big-time prospects going into Saturday night.

So you can bet all of your Heisman voters, draft scouts and college football fans have him on it now. Yes, his numbers were great but the way he racked them up Saturday night was something to marvel. We know that a knee injury can’t change a man’s vision.

But you can see the power, the burst, the balance and the change of direction were all there. However, the most impressive thing about him Saturday night was the stamina he showed. He won the game for his bulldogs with his 32nd carry of the game.

He broke two tackles and ran way from the defense, overcoming an angle on the 55-yard TD run. It seemed it took 3-4 defenders to tackle him on every carry he had. Between his elusiveness and power, it was hopeless for one man to try to bring him down.

Stanford’s Christian McCaffery had a great night on Friday night and he’s probably the best player. LSU’s Leonard Fournette and Oregon’s Royce Freeman had nice debuts on Saturday. But Chubb is the one that looks like the best running back prospect after Week 1.
