The New York Jets prevailed in a gunslinging shootout over the Buffalo Bills to claim their first victory of the season 37-31.

Despite a strong showcase from the Bills offense, they remain winless falling to an 0-2 start. Fitz”magic” found his 2015 groove again after a quiet week 1 performance, throwing for 374 yards and a touchdown for a passer rating of 116.5.

He overcame Rex Ryan for his second career win against his complex defenses, now with a career record of 2-8 against the defensive minded coach. But the new offensive trio outshined his individual performance.

Marshall and Decker each had over 100 yards receiving with Decker catching the lone touchdown. Brandon Marshall recorded 4 receptions after being pulled from the game in what could have been a major injury. He finished with 101 yards on a slightly sprained knee.

The duo ranked first in receptions and touchdowns last season while ranking second in receiving yards. Jets fans can breathe easy now that they are back to form after recording 5 receptions for 69 yards in the season debut.

The key difference was newly acquired free agent Matt Forte. He continues to be one of the most underrated players in the league despite putting up fantastic performances year in and year out. He followed up his 155 yard Jet debut with a 100-yard rushing, 3 touchdown game to keep the game out of reach from the pesky Bills.

Jets receiver Quincy Enunwa continues to be a secret weapon in an already potent offense. His 54 receiving yards in Week 1 were only second to Forte and he followed it up with a 6 catch, 92-yard game that almost made him the third 100-yard receiver for the Jets tonight.

Buffalo had no business for making the game close but they did anyway. They finished the game with just 16 first downs compared to New York’s 28 and  only went 3-for-10 on third down conversions. The Bills held the ball for just 20 minutes.

Tyrod Taylor kept them in the game with a flurry of fantastic plays proving his worth as the team’s franchise quarterback. He went 18-for-30 for 297 yards on 9.9 yards per attempt. His first throw was an 84-yard touchdown bomb to Goodwin as he burned cornerback Darrelle Revis.

He even looked like Russell Wilson as he used his legs to buy time and juke defenders before throwing a second bomb to Salas which translated into a 71-yard touchdown to bring the Bills back into the game 17-20 early in the third quarter.

The Rex and Rob Ryan led defense had very little going for it tonight. After being torched from both the rushing attack and aerial assault, only two positives could be found. They held Forte to under 4 yards a carry and returned a fumble for a touchdown which gave them a brief lead 24-20. Forte immediately grabbed the lead back and the Jets maintained it the rest of the way.

More from Buffalo Bills

It is relieving to see the Bills’ offense in full force after their 7 point dud last contest. Their explosive and bizarre offense ran smoothly without an effective Sammy Watkins. Shady McCoy had a solid game as well with 100 total yards from scrimmage.

After ignoring devastating hits toward Cam Newton, personnel followed strict safety protocol involving concussion scares. Tyrod took a tough high hit and the referees made sure he was cleared from any concussion symptoms, causing him to miss two plays in the process.

A nice moment for the Buffalo Bills came at halftime when they honored Bruce Smith by retiring his jersey. He is now just the second to receive that honor joining former teammate Jim Kelly.

The Jets found some peace after a stinging loss to the Bills in Week 17 which caused them to miss the playoffs. They now face the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3.
