Tennessee’s Jalen Reeves-Maybin is an explosive and versatile linebacker eligible for the 2017 NFL Draft prospect.

Jalen Reeves-Maybin is a quick-twitch athlete who gets up to full speed in a hurry. He covers a ton of ground and is cable of making plays sideline to sideline. This is an aggressive player who loves to play at or behind the line of scrimmage.

His explosiveness makes him a major threat to produce tackles for loss. He also features the instincts and ability to make quick reads needed to make plays behind the line.

Reeves-Maybin prefers to work around blockers as he attacks the ball carrier. However, he’s shows a willingness to gain inside hands and anchor in the hole. His effectiveness taking on blocks is inconsistent because he doesn’t have great size or bulk.

It’s important to note that the fact he’s willing to take on those blockers shows that it’s an area where he could improve. However, it’s his speed and lateral quickness that will allow him to make plays.

As a tackler, he does a good job remaining balance but also finishing with a thump.

Reeves-Maybin also brings value in coverage where he shows the ability to track the ball, identify routes and limit separation. Tennessee doesn’t hesitate to bump him out to the slot where he matches up against receivers and running backs.

His ability to contribute against the run and pass makes him a 3-down linebacker. He also has experience on special teams which only increases his overall value. Reeves-Maybin shouldn’t have an issue sticking on a roster because of his versatility.

However, this is a prospect that is more than someone battling for a roster spot. He has the skills needed to be a highly-impactful starter in the NFL. It’s his combination of quickness and feel for the position that makes him a solid prospect.
