RB. Florida State. Dalvin Cook. 5. player. 16. Many said Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan panicked when he fired offensive coordinator Greg Roman. The timing would suggest that but Ryan has thought about making the move for quite a while now. From last year to now, the Bills’ offense hasn’t been what Ryan likes and knows.
Behind quarterback Tyron Taylor and receiver Sam Watkins, the Bills are explosive and can score from anywhere on the field. But on third down, especially this year, that offense can’t keep themselves on the field. And that keeps the defense on the field for much too long, making them tired.

Ryan lost two starters on defense already but still has them playing well when they’re not on the field all day. But with no running game to keep the offense on schedule, they stay on the field all day. Running back LeSean McCoy just isn’t as effective as he was a few years ago.

So at No. 5 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Bills select Dalvin Cook to get back to the “ground-and-pound.” Cook is a great as a pure runner and receiver out of the backfield plus he’s a willing pass protector. He’s a bell-cow that you don’t have to take off the field so he is worth the high selection.
