At 3-1 at the quarter-mark of the season, everything looks good for the Dallas Cowboys. DE DeMarcus Lawrence is coming back to give the team’s pass rush a much-needed shot in the arm.

Dallas Cowboys DE DeMarcus Lawrence is now back from his suspension for substance abuse. But all I’ve heard in the media lately is how 2015 1st-round pick Randy Gregory’s continued suspension hurts them. It does but it’s only the equivalent of losing a rotational piece.

Lawrence is the one that led the Cowboys in sacks in 2015 with eight of them in 13 games. Hence, defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli can’t wait to get the 3rd-year defensive end back. He’s been saying all season so far that the pass rush “isn’t good enough.”

The Cowboys only have six on the season, which won’t exactly scare NFL offenses. That’s on pace for 24 total, worse than in past years, when they were near the bottom of the league. He’s just in time for the Cincinnati Bengals, who have a high-powered passing game.

Marinelli grinned when asked about getting Lawrence back and told the Dallas Star Telegram, “I can’t wait. It’ll be fun to get him going and just try to keep improving each week.”

Tyrone Crawford, who recently move to DE from DT, registered the only sack Sunday. And he has two of the six sacks the Cowboys have right now. Marinelli plans to continue using Crawford more at the end spot even when Lawrence returns.

So Cowboys fans can look forward to seeing Crawford at the base end and Lawrence at rush end.

The team will be fine without Gregory.
