Today on Fox And Friends, Terry Bradshaw gave his analysis on the state of the union: ” … This country’s getting worse and worse… All great empires die from within.”

Earlier on Tuesday, former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw made an appearance on Fox News’ ‘Fox and Friends’ show to give his take on the current status of the country. At the very least, the NFL Hall of Famer has a fairly bleak outlook on the future of the United States.

Somehow, Bradshaw was able to tie all of this back to the protests started by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. This morning’s commentary reek of someone trying to give analysis that they were woefully unprepared for. Anyway, here are some of Bradshaw’s statements:

"“I do have a problem when people in this country don’t respect our flag and national anthem … this country’s getting worse and worse and more and more immoral and we’re rotting from within. All great empires die from within.”"

Not only, according to Terry Bradshaw, is the United States going to ‘rot from within’ but all of this is related to tonight’s Vice Presidential debate. Bradshaw highlighted that tonight’s debate, between Tim Kaine and Mike Pence, features two men who are ‘religious’ and thus pertinent to this conversation. Bradshaw states:

"“The two vice presidential guys are going at it and they are both saying what? ‘We’re religious.’ What does that mean? [That] you’re religious? Everybody is religious.”"

I am not exactly sure what would resolve his angst. Anyway, you might be asking, why is this relevant?

Terry Bradshaw is one of the most recognizable, distinguished celebrities in the state of Pennsylvania. In about four weeks, Pennsylvania could be the key to the Presidential election and every vote in the state is crucial. Celebrities in many swing states, such as Lebron James’ endorsement of Hillary Clinton in Ohio, are able to push a few voters here and there. Bradshaw, however, does not exactly push the voters anywhere but down a hole of misery.

The lack of coherency in Bradshaw’s statements make it difficult to discern exactly how he would want this apocalypse to be resolved. I think Bradshaw attempted to support the GOP through his statements this morning, though I am honestly unsure.

Terry loses me right about here:

"“I’ve never had a problem with people expressing themselves– it’s one great thing about our country and the First Amendment rights, everybody has them. I do have a problem with the flag. I am a man that loves the flag. I love the national anthem. I find it extremely disrespectful, but if in fact that’s what they want to do, then they do it.”"

My dear Terry, you seem to misunderstand what it means to protest. No one wants to be protesting, it has become necessary. Considering your tremendous amount of confusion, there’s no point in offering a comprehensive history of the oppression of Black people in this country to you, so lets try to simplify.

The beauty of the First Amendment is that it applies to everyone. Anyone, especially a group of people who have been institutionally and systematically restrained for hundreds of years, has the right to lawfully protest. But, apparently, you seem to understand some of that:

"“I don’t mind what Colin [Kaepernick] is doing thats bringing attention to [the mistreatment of minorities in the United States].”"

But of course, that didn’t come before Bradshaw foreboded some almighty punishment be levied on Kaepernick.

"“There are repercussions [to protesting the national anthem]. I think that you are going to pay for it some way or another.”"

The take away is this: if our country dies from within, Terry Bradshaw reported it first on Fox News.
