Jay Cutler Guaranteed His Starting Job Back Now
Not long ago, many Chicago Bears fans were ready to show quarterback Jay Cutler the door to city. Head coach John Fox wasn’t too far down that list either, not guaranteeing him his job when he gets back. But now, the Bears have to come back to him.
Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler is the blame for way too many things that go wrong with the team. He had a career year last year and somehow, it’s his fault the defense was Swiss cheese. Then this year comes and it’s his fault the team is 1-6.
The Bears improved their defense but did nothing about pass-protection for Cutler. But somehow, it’s Cutler’s fault again—I guess he needs to block for himself. Then Cutler sustains and injury and Brian Hoyer replaces him late in Week 2.
And after a few good games from Hoyer, head coach John Fox won’t guarantee Cutler his starting job he’s healthy. The defenses that Hoyer played against were horrible. So I said to myself, wait until Hoyer has to play against a good defense.”
He did very well with the Texans last year with his easy regular season schedule. But in the playoffs, he fell apart against the Kansas City Chiefs. So there is no room for shock after he struggled before his injury against the Green Bay Packers.
The insult to his injury was he went 4-11 for 49 yards and a quarterback rating of 50.9. Then 2nd-year quarterback Matt Barkley, whom many wanted to see, was even worse. He went 6-15 for 89 yards, didn’t throw a TD and threw two INTs for a quarterback rating of 18.3.
Barkley isn’t ready for that kind of defense yet and Hoyer never will be. We’ve seen Cutler beat the Packers with a little bit of protection from the offensive line. So Bears fans should be ready to stand behind him when he’s able to play again.
