The New England Patriots have the opportunity to get what they need by trading Jimmy Garoppolo. Garoppolo proved what he has worth when he started the season in place of the suspended Tom Brady.
Not that the Patriots need much because they have already claimed the best record in the NFL. But it wouldn’t hurt to add a top-tier wide receiver or a compliment to LeGarrette Blount. The Patriots have a tool they could use to bulk up their offense and that is Jimmy Garoppolo.
Garoppolo stepped in as the starter for the first four games of the season. Everyone expected the Patriots to falter without Tom Brady. But they did just the opposite with Garoppolo at the helm. Starting the first two games before hurting his shoulder Garoppolo went 42-of-60 for 492 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions.
By proving he could be a starter in the NFL, the Patriots could trade him away. They could get a player they could benefit them right now. There are a few teams that could use Garoppolo. The Jets just lost Geno Smith and Fitzpatrick hasn’t been playing that good. Cleveland is on their sixth quarterback and could use a quarterback that is capable of winning. The 49ers have also had some trouble at the quarterback position.
There are plenty of landing places for Garoppolo but it will come down what the Patriots can get in return. The Patriots don’t really have big name players on their offense besides Brady and Rob Gronkowski. They could benefit from a top-tier wide receiver or another running back.

If they trade Garoppolo, they could make their offense even stronger. The Patriots could also gain draft picks in a trade where they could bulk up their team. Garoppolo is the back up to Brady but Jacoby Brissett showed that he can also play and win NFL games. Brissett got a chance to start in week three and four while Garoppolo was out due to injury. Brissett led the Patriots to their third straight victory over the Houston Texans.
The Patriots don’t need three quarterbacks on the team especially when one of them is Brady. Brady isn’t going anywhere any time soon so the odds of the backup playing again is rare. Brissett would do just fine if he needed to step in. The Patriots would benefit from trading away Garoppolo for a position they could use on the field right now.
It wouldn’t be far-fetched to see the Patriots going to get a wide receiver to add to their arsenal of weapons. If they did trade Garoppolo it wouldn’t hurt their team.
