2017 NFL Mock Draft: Top 5
By jonfox
3. Jacksonville Jaguars: Mike Williams, WR Clemson
This author doesn’t rate Jabrill Peppers high enough to be a top 10 pick. In the real world, the Jags probably take him here to team with Jalen Ramsey. This author has deep reservations about his ability to play in the NFL.
The Jaguars are arguably the toughest team to mock right now. So much is fluid since there probably will be a new coaching staff and front office in command.
On top of this, they have decisions to make with Luke Joeckel and Blake Bortles. The glimmer of success they got last season now looks like a mirage.
Assuming that they bring Bortles back and don’t want to replace Joeckel with this pick, Williams makes the most sense for them.
He’s a multi-level wideout who can be a deep threat, a chain mover and a slot guy. There are fair questions about his skills since he played in Clemson’s simplistic style of offense.
Whether its Bortles, the offense or the skill position talent: they’re just not seeing the level of production at the wide receiver position.
Hurns, Robinson and Lee just aren’t good enough. Williams gives them the deep threat that they’ve been lacking. And allows them to finally dump Marquise Lee, who’s been pretty bad for a long time.
