2017 NFL Mock Draft: Top 5

4. Chicago Bears: DeShone Kizer, QB Notre Dame
It’s hard to see the Bears not coming out of the first round with a quarterback. They quite literally have nothing at the position right now. Even with Cutler and Hoyer, they’re getting marginal results from their passing game.
The problem isn’t wide receiver talent, although Kevin White can’t stay healthy nor look consistent. Alshon Jeffrey has one foot out the door. If they target a young quarterback with talent, he may stay.
Kizer is hardly a superstar prospect. He has some mechanical flaws and Notre Dame has struggled despite his talent. This author sees a lot of Steve McNair in him.
The Bears would have to understand that Kizer might need to sit for a few games, but his arm talent and local ties should get him in the games relatively soon.
The most impressive weapon in Kizer’s arsenal is his ability to improvise and change his release so that a blitzer can’t block it. He’s not perfect when rushed, but for a college player his skills are advanced.
The Bears would be wise to lean on their running game with Jordan Howard if they draft Kizer. He’ll need the time to get up to NFL speed. Also, considering how he throws the ball high sometimes, taller targets would help.
