13. Malik McDowell has a rare blend of strength, power and athleticism for a man his size and length. With his initial surge off the snap, he often puts opposing offensive linemen on skates. He also uses his lateral quickness and can make himself skinny to get through gaps,

When pass rushing, McDowell uses various moves and hand techniques to beat offensive linemen. In the run game, he is able to detach and collect himself with ease to break down in the backfield. Along with his physical gifts, McDowell has and ever-running motor that he never shuts down.

He reminds me a lot of Leonard Williams from 2015 and DeForest Buckner form 2016. The San Diego Chargers had a chance to get Buckner in 2016 and this writer thought they would. But they took Joey Bosa to rush off the edge and it’s working out well now.

When you draft right, you usually get a chance to get the type of player missed on later. And here the chargers are with a chance at another 6’5″, 290-pounder with length, strength and athleticism. The Chargers would be a tough out with that defense and getting everyone healthy.
. DE.
