Whether or not Adrian Peterson comes back this year is up to the team.

Adrian Peterson, the Minnesota Vikings star running back, is known for his healing powers. So when he suffered a torn meniscus in his knee, we all knew it was possible for him to come back. Then the team ended up getting of to a hot start without him.

So we all started to look toward Peterson getting fully healthy and coming back for the playoffs. But the Vikings suffered more injuries and lost a few games too many. That caused them to fall out of the NFC North lead and the playoff picture altogether.

Recently, there have been sounds around the NFL that Peterson has been progressing well. But that did nothing to inform us of when or if he would be back. So he would clear that up with Eric Smith of the team’s official website Wednesday.

He told Smith that he wouldn’t play if the Vikings were eliminated from the playoffs. That’s the smartest decision he could have made for himself going forward. You don’t risk injury and possibly not making a playoff run next just to play again this year.

If there’s anyone that deserves to play in a Super Bowl with all he’s done, it’s Peterson. But now, the Vikings are 6-6 and two games back in the NFC North. So if they want to make a playoff run with Peterson this year, they’ll have to earn it over the next few weeks.
