Poise: Ken Stabler

The NFL ranked Stabler the No. 6 all-time clutch quarterback and of course, he’s No. 1 for the Raiders.. He had a hand in the majority of the Raiders’ named games. On NFL Network, teammate Phil Villapiano said, “Snake [Stabler] would say, ‘Just keep it close.'”

And he came through, winning games like the Sea of Hands, The Holy Roller, and Ghost to the Post. If not for the deception in the Immaculate Reception, his 30-yard TD run would have won that game. Stabler has 26 game winning drives for his career.

So far in his career, Carr has shown that he is cut from the same cloth in the clutch. In just under three years in the NFL, he has 11 game-winning drives, the most since 2014, his rookie year. He just set a record last week, throwing his fifth game-winning TD pass of the season.

Carr must be telling his defense “just keep it close” too as his team believes just like Stabler’s did. God rest his soul, it would have been nice to see an interview on what Stabler thinks of Carr now. But I’m sure he’s up there in heaven with Davis smiling down.
