8. player. 53. With the No. 1 pick, the Browns tightened up the front of their defense with an edge-rusher. But to really put that heat on opposing quarterbacks, you need an interior pass rusher too. And there’s a Leonard Williams, Arik Armstead, DeForest Buckner type of 3-4 end in the draft this year.
I’m not saying he’s quite as good as Williams but he’s right in there as that type of player. McDowell is a tall, long, powerful, agile athletic freak of a 3-4 end that can play the run or pass. He will likely require a double-team or triple-team to free up the edge-rushers to do what they do.

So Garrett, the No. 1 overall pick, and Collins the prize free agent, would be able to get their sacks. McDowell will go in and make the edge-rushers and linebackers around him better right away. The front-seven would quickly become one of the better front-sevens in the NFL at that point.

And if that secondary stays healthy, the Browns would have one of the better defenses in the league. Those quarterbacks in the AFC North would no longer be able to pad their stats against the Browns. The Bengals are on their way down too so there would be a real battle of Ohio.
. DE.
