Michael Floyd Picked up by New England Patriots
After the dark night came the bright day for Michael Floyd.
Arizona Cardinals 2012 No. 13 overall pick Michael Floyd got off to a promising start. In his second year with the team, he had 65 catches for over 1,041 yards and five touchdowns. He was only scratching the surface of the talent that made him a first-round pick.
Since then, the Cardinals have brought in more weapons and Larry Fitzgerald re-emerged as a slot receiver. So Floyd hasn’t seen as many targets but was still a pretty important part of the offense. Then Floyd did the unthinkable earlier this week.
He was arrested on DUI charges and the Cardinals cut him on Wednesday. Then Thursday, the the New England Patriots picked him up on waivers after most of the league chose not to. He’s going to get a chance to be the No. 1 receiver for the best quarterback in the NFL.
And with it, Floyd goes from a team that may pick in the Top-10 in 2017 to the best team in the NFL. That means he’ll be in games with more opportunities while his old team is at home. And after the season, Floyd’s rookie contract comes to an end.
So he has a chance to show his worth with the league’s best quarterback right before he hits the market. This takes “blessing in disguise” into a whole new category for a football player. At the same time, this is quite a blessing for the Patriots too.
Receiver Danny Amendola and tight end Rob Gronkowski are out with injuries. But now, Floyd and Martellus Bennett, will give Brady the targets he needs to get it done. It is doubtful that we even notice the absence of the injured receiver and tight end now.
Congratulations Patriots, you have done it again.
