Big Win Comes at Huge Price For Oakland Raiders

A big win isn’t always what a football team wants it to be.

The Oakland Raiders were really showing us something Saturday against the Indianapolis Colts. They looked like they finally learned how to put their collective foot on a team’s throat and smash it. No more giving up big leads only to have to pull it out late.

They were up 33-14 in the fourth quarter before the unthinkable happened. Raiders’ franchise QB and MVP candidate Derek Carr was injured while getting sacked. It’s a broken fibula that will have him out for the rest of the season.

And suddenly, that killer instinct turned into sadness for their fallen captain. You could hear a pin drop in an Oakland Coliseum that was rocking all afternoon. And of course, the Colts would take advantage, scoring 15 unanswered, leaving the final score at 33-22.

The Raiders may have held on to win but Raider Nation is sick right now because of the cost of the win. With the Raiders already in the playoffs I’m sure we all would have taken a loss to still have Carr. Some are wondering what the Raiders were doing throwing at the time.

The Raiders were up 19 points in the fourth quarter and the Colts couldn’t stop the run. We can do that all day but when it’s not meant to be, it’s not meant be. Let’s just celebrate Carr for leading the Raiders to the promised land (playoffs) for the first time in 14 years.

Unfortunately, like Moses with the Israelites, he won’t get there with them.

But this is still a great season.
