The San Diego Chargers are much closer to becoming a playoff team than many think. Quarterback Philip Rivers kept the Chargers in the Top-10 in points per game despite losing receiver Keenan Allen. Running back Melvin Gordon is starting to prove he’s worth that 2015 first-round pick too.
After not scoring a single touchdown as a rookie, he came back and got in the endzone 10 times in 2016. Hunter Henry is in the process of taking over the tight end spot to balance the offense even more. On defense, the Chargers are have a formidable front-7 with Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa.

They also have a solid secondary that wasn’t what it could have been because they couldn’t stay healthy in 2016. However, that secondary can use a playmaker on the back end to replace Eric Weddle, who’s now in Baltimore. So at No. 7 overall, the Chargers select safety Malik Hooker from Ohio State.

Hooker has the instincts, range, and ball skills to get turnovers for the Chargers at single high safety. He also has the coverage skills to go man-to-man with tight ends and slot receivers. Hooker will help immediately and the Chargers could become one of the great turnaround stories in the NFL in 2017
. S. Ohio State. Malik Hooker. 7. player. 13
