New England Patriots Want too Much For Jimmy Garoppolo
The New England Patriots are now fielding offers for Jimmy Garoppolo. This year doesn’t have a good quarterback class but a first-round pick is asking too much.
New England Patriots backup quarterback is set to enter the final year of his rookie contract. This comes in a year that the draft prospects at quarterback don’t look too promising. Garoppolo went 2-0 before getting injured in relief of suspended Tom Brady this season.
And it looks like they want to parlay him into “at least a first-round pick.” NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport said as much Sunday on NFL Gameday Morning. But at least a first-round pick for a player with two starts in the NFL is a little much.
Would a team bite on Garoppolo given how Matt Cassel worked out for the Kansas City Chiefs?
How about the way Brock Osweiler worked out for the Houston Texans?
The Philadelphia Eagles got a first and a fourth-round pick from the Minnesota Vikings for Sam Bradford. But Bradford was a first-round pick himself who had stretches of playing at a high level. Plus things didn’t turn out so well for the Vikings in 2016.
Quarterback needy teams are also waiting to see what happens with Kirk Cousins in Washington. These quarterback needy teams will also be waiting to see what happens with Tony Romo. The Cleveland Browns have been linked to Garoppolo.
But Hue Jackson had a lot to do with why AJ McCarron was drafted to the Cincinnati Bengals. And rumor has it that McCarron is the guy Jackson is most interested in now. Then there’s the money the team would have to spend if he has one good season.
The Patriots are looking for too much for Garoppolo.
