The Miami Dolphins decided at the last minute not to cut left OT Branden Albert last week.  It Turns out the Jacksonville Jaguars are the team that wants to trade for him.

The Dolphins decided not to cut left OT Branden Albert at the last minute Friday. They suddenly got some trade interest for him and of course, we all wondered who it was from. Well, wonder no more, it is the Jacksonville Jaguars working on a trade involving him.

According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, it involves Albert and Jaguars TE Julius Thomas. The report said there are complications to overcome for this deal to work. One of them includes the players possibly of having to restructure their contracts.

Another one is the players involved obviously have to pass physicals for it to work. No deal could become official until the new league year begins on March 9. But we now know why the Dolphins didn’t cut Albert so we’ll see how it all shakes out soon.

Since going to the Jaguars in free agency a couple of years ago, Thomas has been dead money. He is under contract through 2019, and $3 million of his $7.1 million 2017 salary is guaranteed. Thomas caught four touchdown passes in nine games for the Jaguars last season.

But he had his best seasons with the Denver Broncos when Dolphins HC Adam Gase was their OC. So Gase get a player he knows how to use while dumping Albert, whom he can no longer use. The team is expected to move 2016 first-round pick Laremy Tunsil from left OG to to left OT.

Moving on from Albert saves the Dolphins about $7.2 million in cap space for 2017. Meanwhile the Jaguars get a much-needed left OT after refusing the 2017 contract option on Kelvin Beachum. This trade looks like a win-win all the way around.

We’ll see what happens March 9!
