NFL Draft: Ranking The Top 5 Running Backs
By Zack Trapp
2.) Leonard Fournette, LSU
A freight train let loose on the football field. A violent, bruising runner with a rare skillset. He’s deceptively fast and gets up to top speed in a hurry. This is a classical power back who embraces the physicality of the game.
He likes to lower his shoulder and run defenders over in the open field. Always falls forward. He’s at his best running behind a fullback in the I. His vision and instincts are ideal. He has underrated lateral movement in the open field, sliding past defenders to find open running lanes.
Possesses a devastating spin move. He’s a little bit rigid. The concern here is his role in the passing game. His instincts in pass protection can be problematic at times. For a guy his size, you’d prefer to see his square up a bit better against the pressure.
His hands are fine, although his route tree is limited. Overall, this is a dominant physical back that you can center your entire offense around. The concern here is his role in the passing game. His instincts in pass protection can be problematic at times.

Comparison: A hesitant, ringing callback to Adrian Peterson
Value: Early to Mid-First Round
