The Combine

McCaffrey was humbled at the beginning of the combine with only 10 reps of 225 pounds. But after that, he took over the combine on Friday to show off for the scouts. Many believe McCaffrey closed much of the gap between himself and Leonard Fournette and Dalvin Cook.

For starters, Fournette went into the combine heavy and ran slower than expected. Cook went in at 210 pounds as expected but ran a slower-than-expected 4.49 40. Scouts expected McCaffrey to run around 4.48 but didn’t expect him to be faster than Fournette and Cook.

Then McCaffrey started separating himself with a 6.57 3-cone drill, the second best since 2003. And his ability to change direction and accelerate in football-related drills, were outstanding. He was so fluid and it looked so effortless, the scouts on hand had to notice.

Then when it was time for the RBs to catch passes, it didn’t seem like it was a fair competition. The son of a former WR in the NFL didn’t let anything that came his way hit the ground. And he made it look easy while Fournette double-caught the ball and Cook fought it.
