87. The running game was one of the main reasons the Carolina Panthers made it to the Super Bowl in 2015. And their lack of a running game is the main reason why they fell off in 2016. Cam Newton is a good running QB but your QB shouldn’t lead your team in rushing.
So the Carolina Panthers are going into this draft looking for someone to take over the ground game. And Leonard Fournette is the big, physical running back that defensive coaches like. So Rivera will take the Fournette, who measured in at 6’1″, 240 pounds at the combine.

I prefer him at 230 and with more speed than the 4.5 40 he showed at the combine Friday. But Fournette will set the tone for the defense with his physicality just like Rivera wants him too. He can make defenders miss too but he loves to run guys over more than anything.

So Fournette would go well with a defense that got better as the season went on in 2016. He’s also solid in pass protection and has good hands of the backfield when used that way. If the defense continues to improve, Fournette could carry the Panthers back to the playoffs in 2017.
.
