Calais Campbell Joining the Jacksonville Jaguars
This may finally be the year that the Jacksonville Jaguars break through! With the addition of Calais Campbell, it won’t be because of the defense if it isn’t.
Jacksonville Jaguars executive Tom Coughlin vowed to make his team tougher and more physical. When doing that, the first place you start is at the line of scrimmage. Coughlin started earlier this offseason by adding OT Branden Albert to the offense.
Coughlin is keeping it going by adding DT Calais Campbell in free agency. The Jaguars have drafted well on that side of the ball of late, ranking No. 6 in total defense in 2016. However, they must get better because they were ranked No. 25 in points for the year.
DE Yannick Ngakoue, who lead the team in sacks with eight last year will benefit from Campbell’s presence. Fellow DE Dante Fowler, the 2015 first-round pick, will also benefit. The Jaguars will have one of the better LB corps in the NFL in 2017 too.
MLB Paul Posluszny will be flanked by OLBs Telvin Smith and Myles Jack. The secondary is also taking shape with 2016 first-round CB Jalen Ramsey and S Tashaun Gipson. Getting Prince Amukamara back would be great for the team but it’s not life and death.
This year’s draft is so deep at CB, you can get a starter up to the fourth round. Should everyone stay healthy, the Jaguars should be a top unit in yards and scoring in 2017. All they would need then is for QB Blake Bortles to direct their offense to respectability.
Coughlin said at a State of the Franchise event on Wednesday per PFT, “I suggest we adopt the term ‘grit’ as a way to define ourselves.”
That’s how get back in contention!
