Washington CB Sidney Jones was looking to solidify his NFL future at his Pro Day. But after tearing his Achilles, all he did was create uncertainty.

To many, Washington CB Sidney Jones was the top CB prospect of the 2017 NFL Draft. But overall, he was splitting the distinction of No. 1 CB Prospect with Marshon Lattimore. Either way, there was enough room in the top-10 or top-15 for both of them.

That was until Jones’ Pro Day Saturday, where he injured his Achilles, ruining his draft stock. One has to wonder why Jones even had to participate in a Pro Day after a solid combine. He checked in at 6’0″, 186 pounds with great arm length at 31 1/2 inches.

Then he answered all questions about his speed, running a 4.47 40 to solidify his draft status. But instead of standing on his combine performance, he put himself at risk by having a Pro Day. And of all things, his injury came when he was doing position drills.

He has plenty of good tape to go through and participated in drills at the combine drills. I can see why he would want to run his 40 again if he believes he has a 4.3 in him. Trying to improve on his 33.5-inch vertical leap would even be understandable.

But participating in position drills, where there’s the highest risk of injury, was a bad idea. I hate to see this happen to such great prospect and who seems to be a good person. Perhaps prospects in the future will be reluctant to participate in Pro Days after a solid combine in the future.

I know I would!
