Cleveland Browns Should Keep WR Josh Gordon
The Cleveland Browns said hey moved on from receiver Josh Gordon last year. But right now, it would probably be best to keep him for at least one more year.
Cleveland Browns receiver Josh Gordon is looking to get back in the NFL in 2017. And ESPN reported Friday that he hired former former Olympian Tim Montgomery to be his speed coach. Gordon has been working out with Montgomery in Gainesville, Florida.
Gordon, soon to be 26, has served one drug suspension after another while in the NFL. Montgomery has had his problems with both recreational drugs and performance enhancers. But he has since rebuilt his life and may be just what Gordon needs.
One big question is if Gordon reinstated this offseason, where will he play?
Last offseason, Gordon was conditionally reinstated and suspended for the first four games of 2016. But soon after, he checked himself into a rehab facility so he is still suspended. The Browns then seemed to write him off soon thereafter.
ESPN has a quote from Browns head coach Hue Jackson from last September saying:
"“What’s best for our football team is that we move forward and move on. He’s not going to be with us, and we wish him well, but we’re moving forward. We’re going to move on.”"
At the time, the Browns had Terrelle Pryor and they just drafted Corey Coleman in the first round. But Pryor has since fled to the Washington Redskins and Coleman hasn’t looked like much. The Browns just brought Kenny Britt into the fold but that’s not a major deal.
They’re most likely to pick quarterback Mitchell Trubisky at No. 12 overall and he needs a target. The Browns still have Gordon is under contract so they might as well see if he is still as superstar. If he is, the Browns will be a competitive team in 2017.
And if they still want to move on from him, they can get something for him.
Just cutting him is not a good idea!
