50. Former Michigan State DT Malik McDowell is this year’s freak athlete among the 300 pounders. At 6’6″, 300 pounds, he ran an 4.85 40 and posted a 7.69 time in the three-cone drill. And yes, he is strong as he often anchored against double and triple-teams and didn’t get moved.

His first-step quickness and speed help him make those splash plays in opposing teams’ backfields. With his combination of speed, power and agility, there are times the McDowell is unblockable. He just needs to be more consistent and NFL coaches are paid to make players consistent.

The Detroit Lions are the team that should coach him up into a dominant player in the NFL. The Lions have DE Ezekiel Ansah, who played injured last year, back to disrupt the QB off the edge. He needs help putting heat on opposing QBs and it would be best if it came from the inside.

Matthew Stafford his playing his best football right now and has the Lions’ offense rolling. They just need their defense to step up to keep guys like Aaron Rodgers from beating them. If the Lions get that defense going, they could very well win the NFC North in 2017.
. DT. Michigan State. Malik McDowell. 21. player
