The speed that TEs had at the 2017 NFL Combine shows that the position is coming into the new age. They’re too fast for LBs and too big for DBs so it’s tough to find a matchup for them. But former UConn S Obi Melifonwu is fully equipped to match up with the new age TEs.
Melifonwu is 6’4, 225 pounds with 32 1/2-long arms to jam TEs up at the line of scrimmage. He’s also a former CB and still has those talents with his fluid hips and 4.40 40 speed. He could also play in the box and has the range to play single high S when need be.
<div class=. S. This is the perfect S partner for Karl Joseph and would do the Oakland Raiders a lot of good. Joseph can cover the slot so when he’s there, Melifonwu can take care of single-high S. But for the most part, his job will be covering athletic TEs like Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Raiders have had all kinds of problems covering opposing TEs the last few years. The Raiders just picked up LB Jelani Jenkins so all they need to do is bring back Perry Riley Jr. The Raiders would then have a defense good enough for the Raiders to make a deep playoff run.
