50. Former Tennessee DE Derek Barnett is a solid edge-rushing prospect in a deep class of them. He didn’t run the 40 time he wanted to in offseason workouts, which probably dropped him out of the top 10. But he showed tremendous first-step quickness and burst around the corner on tape.

His sub-seven-second three-cone drill is a good indication of how he turns that corner. That quickness and burst would serve the Lions well at Ford Field, where it’s very loud. Also, the 6’3″, 260-pounder has power behind his bull rush and an array of pass-rush moves.

The way he uses his hands slap and chop opposing OT’s hands off of him is reminiscent of Joey Bosa. In today’s game, you need two solid edge rushers, not one, if you’re going to beat a great QB. And the Lions are trying to deal with Aaron Rodgers, who has ruled the NFC North for years.

QB Matthew Stafford is playing his best football and has his offense rolling enough to win. So the defense has to hold up it’s end to win the division and go further in the playoffs. And Barnett can come of the opposite edge of Ansah to make that happen in 2017.
. DE. Tennessee. Derek Barnett. 21. player
