Before getting drafted, prospects are put through a marathon of workouts. And Christian McCaffrey has dropped out of his marathon.
When the NFL prospects finish their final collegiate season, the long grind begins for them. Some of them play in college All-Star gamesĀ and all of them start training for the NFL Scouting Combine. Then after that, they keep training to get ready for their Pro Days.
And it doesnāt stop there as the NFL teams ask them to do private workouts as well. Itās no wonder why these youngsters hit a rookie wall, theyāve all been overworked before the season. Itās a shame that top CB prospect Sidney Jones has a torn achilles from his Pro Day.
So former Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey is playing it smart, not doing these private workouts. Many see himĀ as a potential top-10 pick Ā after what he did at the combine and his Pro Day. Thereās not a whole lot he can gain by doing these private workouts.
He has a body of work that speaks for itself, all you have to do is watch his tape. Then he lit the NFL Scouting Combine up before lighting up his Pro Day to confirm who and what he is. All heĀ could do at this point is lose his top-10 status if he gets injured.
So McCaffrey, whoās already a commodity, made a smart decision to turn down all private workouts. Of course, no one should be surprised as this is the same guy the didnāt play in his teamās bowl game. These private workouts should be for prospects with more to prove.
