DE. Michigan. Taco Charlton. 9. player. 56. With the No. 9 overall pick in the draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select former Tennessee DE Taco Charlton.. At 6’6″, 277 pounds with long arms, Charlton is what the Bengals like. His length keeps blockers away, he has a quick first step and he continues with burst around the corner.
He didn’t have the greatest day at the NFL Scouting Combine running his 40 in the 4.9s. But at Michigan’s pro day, he confirmed his quick first step and burst, running in the 4.7s. Charlton converts speed to power pretty well, enabling him to generate force on a bull rush too.
<div class=

Then there’s his array of rip moves along with a spin move he’ll hit you with on occasion. His hand usage is still lacking but a D-line coach will be happy to work with him on that. He was Pro Football Focus’ most efficient edge rusher in college last year so enough of the skills are there.

Plus the Bengals love their tall, long DEs that they know how to develop like Carlos Dunlap. The Bengals straightened out their problem at MLB, cutting Rey Maualuga and signing Kevin Minter. So with this pick and the offense led by QB Andy Dalton and WR Julio Jones, the Bengals move up.
