With the No. 22 overall pick in the draft, the Miami Dolphins select former Miami TE David Njoku. Njoku is more of a move TE that is not yet strong enough for the blocking responsibilities of an in-line TE. He’s also a little raw but he’s a dynamic athlete and will be a matchup nightmare in the NFL.

Even with his rawness, he would help the Dolphins immediately as a vertical TE that makes plays down the field. After running a 4.64 at the NFL Scouting Combine, Njoku ran in the 4.4s at his pro day. That’s rare speed for his size at 6’4″ 246 pounds—too fast for LBs while too big for DBs.

Njoku also has 35 1/4-inch long arms to go with a 37.5-inch vertical leap, giving him a large catch radius. You can’t take him away along with WRs DeVante Parker, Jarvis Landry and Kenny Stills at the same time. So when Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots take something away, something will open up.

QB Ryan Tannehill looks like he’s figuring things out and RB Jay Ajayi has emerged as a top ball carrier. You gotta love what the Dolphins did on defense signing DE William Hayes, LB Lawrence Timmons and S Nate Allen. If they get a CB later later in the draft, they’ll even be hard for the Patriots to beat.
. TE. Miami. David Njoku. 22. player. 59
