With the No. 8 overall pick in the draft, the Carolina Panthers select former Stanford RB Christian McCaffrey. The Panthers need him because they can’t have QB Cam Newton continue to lead the team in rushing. And Jonathan Stewart has probably gotten to the point where he can’t carry the load anymore.
McCaffrey is a great player that can do just about anything on the field with a ball in his hands. As a runner, he has great vision and patience then uses his burst to get through the hole. Once the gets through that part of the run, the fun just started for him.

McCaffrey is about as elusive as they come as he consistently leaves defenders reaching and diving. And his 4.48 40 at the combine tells you he can take it the distance once he’s out ahead. As a receiver, he catches the ball away from his body just like a WR.

He’s also a great route runner that can play in the slot, where the Panthers can also use him. Their defense started to pick it up last year and has ageless Julius Peppers coming. That and the running game is what was lacking last year so they’re in good shape for 2017.
. RB. Stanford. Christian McCaffrey. 8. player. 87
