2017 NFL Draft Positional Rankings: Final Defensive Rankings
By Jon Dove
Edge
Myles Garrett is the best prospect in the 2017 NFL Draft and it isn’t even close. He has the traits needed to quickly become a double-digit sack artist. This is a special athlete who knows how to work his way into the backfield.
The talk about an inconsistent motor is overblown as this is a kid who does play hard. He isn’t just a one-dimensional player in that he will play the run with integrity.
Solomon Thomas is an explosive athlete with the ability to disrupt the timing of the offense. He’s a unique prospect who doesn’t fit the bill of a traditional defensive end, but more of a versatile player who can work inside and out.
There’s a lot of depth and upside among the edge rushing group. Takk McKinley is one of my favorite prospects and someone who should have an immediate impact. Mid-round picks like Tarell Basham, Derek Rivers and Josh Carraway could develop into big-time playmakers.
1. Myles Garrett, Texas A&M
2. Solomon Thomas, Stanford
