The Browns have missed out on a lot of quarterbacks in this draft, but their patience might have landed them one in round two with DeShone Kizer.
At the end of day one the Browns ended up with three first round draft picks and no quarterbacks. Some Browns fans were excited, some were ready to jump off the 430 bridge. With the theme over the draft season in Cleveland being “Mr. Haslem get me my quarterback” Browns fans were left wondering. They have now added DeShone Kizer.
They don’t have to wonder any longer. The quarterback that many scouts have as the top one on the board fell to them at pick fifty two. Browns fans can finally breath a sigh of relief. They have a big armed local quarterback in Deshone Kizer.
Kizer has an elite arm and an elite brain. He has a large frame that can withstand the brutal Northeast Ohio weather. Kizer showed a good long ball with the ability to stretch the field. He also showed good escape ability when faced with pressure. His ability to drop dimes in the end zone left you wanting more. His Quarterback IQ is top notch, wowing scouts with his ability to retain data.
Kizer will need some work and may have to sit behind either Cody Kessler or Brock Osweiler this season. In his 2015 campaign he showed elite passing and decision making ability. His 2016 tap showed some decline with many scouts left scratching their head as to why. Some are attributing it to having less talent around him. Others are attributing it to him trying to force to many throws.
Kizers upside makes the gamble all worth it. Especially when your get him at a late second round value. If Kizer is able to develop fully, the Browns will have the quarterback they have been waiting for for years.
