The Pittsburgh Steelers Select T.J. Watt with the 30 Overall pick

T.J. Watt has a lot of upside and is a very good pick this late in the draft. He has shown he can make plays even though he is a raw prospect. He is going into a great situation in Pittsburgh. The Steelers are great at coaching up raw talent.

At the beginning of the draft, there were a few needs for the former AFC North Champs to help get them over the hump. T.J. Watt fills one of them perfectly. The Steelers had trouble getting to the quarterback last year and needed another pass rusher.

Though only playing a year, Watt showed enough to be drafted in the first round. I believe it is the intangibles as just like his brother, he has a never-ending motor and that is something you cannot coach. He is also a fast learner, going from tight end to linebacker in a year and  being successful. In just one year, he had 59 total tackles and 11.5 sacks with one touchdown.

I am not expecting Watt to start right from the beginning but he will play in a reserve role. There aren’t many good defensive lineman on the Steelers that can spell Heyward or Tuitt roster, who play 80 percent of snaps.

The Steelers still have needs which are at cornerback, linebacker, wide receiver, and quarterback.

I feel this is a player that can contribute early. Which you look for especially at the end of the first round, where you usually look for upside and value.
