The changes to the coaching staff promise to have a major impact. Sean McVay is young but has proven to be a strong play caller. His inexperience is countered by the hiring of Wade Phillips who is well respected and has plenty of head coaching experience.
There’s a lot of pressure on McVay to get Jared Goff’s career on track. Goff needs to play with more confidence and show he was worthy of the No. 1 overall pick.
The signing of veteran left tackle Andrew Whitworth will really help. Goff dealt with a ton of pressure last year which is never good for a young quarterback’s development. Whitworth will also be counted on to open more running lanes for Todd Gurley.
Los Angeles still doesn’t have much to offer Goff in the way of pass catchers. Tavon Austin is explosive but needs a specific game plan to get the football. The singing of Robert Woods does little to move the needs as does the drafting of Gerald Everett and Cooper Kupp.
Defensively, the Rams need their stars to stay healthy and that starts Robert Quinn. The combination of Quinn and Aaron Donald is deadly when they are both on the field.
