Gareon Conley is the best cover-CB in this draft and I’m not just saying it because he’s a Raider now. But Marshon Lattimore, his teammate, is the one that’s been the best. He won the combine but on the football field where it matters the most, Conley is the clear winner.
Lattimore was great, allowing an NFL passer rating of just 30.2 on throws into his coverage in 2016. But Conley was out of this world, allowing an NFL passer rating of only 13.6 on throws into his coverage. His 33-inch-long arms are good for pressing at the line of scrimmage.

He also has the hips and feet to play off and instincts and ball skills to pick your pocket in zone coverage. He was the best player on the board at a need when the Raiders picked and the perfect fit. Conley ran the same Cover 1/Cover 3, press-bail coverage at Ohio State that the Raiders run.

And he can cover the quicker, faster WRs with his feet, hips, eye-discipline and speed. Then Sean Smith, who played very well after his horrible start, can continue to lock down big WRs like Mike Evans. Perhaps Amerson, who was so-so after a solid 2015, will become the CB3. .
. CB.
