Biggest Risk

Identifying the Mitch Trubisky pick as the most risky selection is pretty simple. He was the team’s highest pick, cost extra draft capital to acquire and plays the quarterback position. Ryan Pace and company really rolled the dice when they made the move to drat Trubisky.

It’s always a risky move when a team trades up to draft a quarterback. Chicago’s situation is more volatile because of the uncertainty surrounding Trubisky’s future.

Trubisky started only 13 games at the college level with a chuck of those games producing questionable results. There just isn’t a large body of work for anyone to feel completely comfortable that Trubisky will be a top-end quarterback.

This pick cost the Bears picks in the later rounds and a chance to add a high-impact defender. Trubisky’s career will constantly be compared to the other quarterbacks in this draft and the defenders Chicago passed on.

It’s a new era in Chicago that will see Mitch Trubisky under center in the near future. The expectations will be very high with very little room for error. Trubisky is going to need to show some real progress as soon as he hits the field.

Otherwise, Chicago’s fan base will turn up the heat and start calling for a change. This is a fan base that is already upset with Ryan Pace’s decision to pull the trigger on Trubisky.
