Biggest Risk

The Bills played it safe by trading down and stock piling picks. They could’ve pulled the trigger on a quarterback like Patrick Mahomes or Deshaun Watson. Instead, Buffalo chose to give Tyrod Taylor another shot at establishing himself as their long-term starter.

Sometimes playing it safe is actually the riskiest move. There’s no doubting that both Mahomes and Watson have the upside to be elite NFL quarterbacks. If one of these two reach their potential the Bills decision to trade down will be questioned.

We hear all the time about teams that passed on drafting a player that developed into a star. In fact, it’s discussed even if the player shows some promise.

The Cleveland Browns have received a lot of criticism for trading the pick that ended up being Carson Wentz. Despite a solid rookie season, Wentz is far from a sure thing but people are quick to point out the Browns quarterback issues while Wentz shows promise.

As risky as it is passing on a high upside quarterbacks like Mahomes and Watson, the Bills did the right thing. They have a veteran quarterback capable of winning games and didn’t fall in love with unproven quarterback prospects.
