17. Bryce Petty, New York Jets
It’s tough to judge Bryce Petty’s play last year because of the lack of talent on the New York Jets roster. They just didn’t have enough surrounding talent to help the young quarterback succeed. Unfortunately, things don’t look much brighter this year.
Petty’s strengths are his solid accuracy, quick release and overall athleticism. He wasn’t able to find his stride last year because of injuries, ineffective offensive line play and questionable play calling.
The Jets brought in Josh McCown to be their starting quarterback, but are absolutely open to someone like Petty grabbing the long-term job.
18. Brady Kaaya, Detroit Lions
Despite having Matthew Stafford and Jake Rudock, the Detroit Lions used a 6th round pick on the talented Brad Kaaya. It was a smart move because a team can never have enough talented quarterbacks on the roster.
Kaaya will be the team’s No. 3 option and someone they can bring along slowly. He’s a savvy quarterback who makes sound decisions and features solid arm strength. Kaaya can be an accurate thrower, but needs to show better deep accuracy.
Detroit could be looking at Kaaya as a tradable asset. If he shows some real promise in the preseason someone could be willing to make the Lions an offer.
