19. New Orleans Saints- Sam Hubbard, DL, Ohio State

The New Orleans Saints struck gold in the 2017 NFL Draft when Marshon Lattimore fell to pick No. 10. He filled a major need and gave the Saints an elite talent. However, they could’ve easily targeted one of the pass rushers with this pick.

Instead, they are counting on the likes of Alex Okafor, Hau’oli Kikaha and Obum Gwacham to generate pressure opposite Cameron Jordan.

The 2018 NFL Draft is shaping up to be a solid class for pass rushers, but not as rich as 2017. Ohio State’s Sam Hubbard is one of the edge prospects who has put himself in the 1st round mix. He’s a versatile defender who holds up against the run and generates pressure.

Hubbard plays with a non-stop motor which helps him be very disruptive. He shouldn’t be considered a speed rusher, but he has the savvy and burst to gain the edge.

Adding Hubbard to a defensive line featuring Jordan, Nick Fairley and Sheldon Rankins would give the Saints a potentially dominating group. It would also be a well-rounded unit in that they will stuff the run and create pressure.

It’s possible that Hubbard hears his name called much earlier than the 18th pick. He has a lot of upside and the type of motor teams love.
