5 Reasons New England Patriots repeat as Super Bowl champs
3. More weapons on offense
The Patriots didn’t even have tight end Rob Gronkowski for the playoffs or the Super Bowl but they’ll have him back from injury this season. Gronkowski is the top tight end in the league and the fact the Patriots still won without him is a scary thought.
Although, Gronkowski’s replacement from last year, Martellus Bennett is no longer with the team, there’s another good option at tight end should Gronkowski go down again. The Patriots traded a fourth round pick to Indianapolis Colts for Dwayne Allen.
Allen is another player who showed flashes with his former team but will probably end up a better performer with the Patriots. If Gronkowski can stay healthy, then he and Allen will make formidable tandem at tight end.
At wide receiver the New England Patriots traded a first and a third round draft pick to the New Orleans Saints for Brandin Cooks. That’s a lot to give up, but Cooks is the deep threat that the Patriots haven’t had in a while. I think he’ll be worth what the Patriots gave up to get him.
He’s put together two consecutive thousand yard receiving seasons for the Saints and his presence will make the Patriots passing attack even harder to defend. Cooks alongside Julian Edelman, Gronkowski, Allen and others…. again, scary.
