Position Battles:

Backup QuarterbackDrew Stanton has been the Arizona Cardinals backup quarterback for a while and has even started some games for them over the years.  However, the Cardinals have signed free agent Blaine Gabbert to compete with Stanton.

Gabbert has had an underwhelming career so far after being taken in the first round of the 2011 draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars.  However, he’s just 27 and his career could be revived by playing under a QB guru like Bruce Arians.

Whoever loses this battle probably won’t make the team.  I think Gabbert will win this battle.  He’s younger and Arians is looking for someone to groom behind Carson Palmer.

Cornerback – One of the Arizona Cardinals starting cornerback spots is manned by one of the best in the league in Patrick Peterson.  However, the other corner spot is up for grabs.  The competitors are Justin Bethel and Brandon Williams.

Bethel has more experience but Williams has the bigger upside. Brandon Williams struggled as a rookie last season but I think he’ll have a better second season.  He’s still new to the cornerback position and the more he learns, the better he’ll become.

However, I think Justin Bethel is the most ready to start between the two and he will win the job in camp.
