SAN DIEGO, CA – DECEMBER 27: Luke Falk
SAN DIEGO, CA – DECEMBER 27: Luke Falk

19. Miami Dolphins- Luke Falk, QB, Washington State

The play of Jay Cutler is going to be one of the more intriguing storylines of the NFL season. He could realistically grab the Miami Dolphins long-term quarterback job if he plays well. However, we have seen enough of Cutler to know that’s a major stretch.

It’s more likely that Cutler follows him career path and makes enough mistakes to keep the Dolphins out of the playoffs. In this scenario, Miami will need to circle back around to Ryan Tannehill or find a new quarterback in the draft.

Tannehill’s situation is complicated by the fact he’s getting more expensive. He has yet to put together a strong season from start to finish and wouldn’t be worth his projected future salary.

Luckily, the 2018 NFL Draft has a lot of talent at the quarterback position. Luke Falk is one of the several quarterbacks in the 1st round mix. His numbers at Washington State are eye-popping but come with the Mike Leach asterisk.

Falk isn’t like Leach’s former quarterbacks in that he has more athleticism and arm strength. He also shows the ability to go through his progressions and work both sides of the field. Falk would be someone Adam Gase can develop from the ground up.
