30. Atlanta Falcons- Quenton Nelson, OG, Notre Dame

So much of the Atlanta Falcons success last year can be attributed to the improvement along the offensive line. This is a group that has an above average starter at most of the positions. However, they do have a hole at the right guard spot.

Last year Chris Chester did a solid job at the position but decided to retire in the offseason. This has left Wes Schweitzer as the new starter with Ty Sambrailo, Ben Garland and Sean Harlow as the backup options.

Notre Dame’s Quenton Nelson would serve as a massive upgrade over any of those players. He’s a powerful player who loves to create movement off the line of scrimmage. Nelson is someone who would immediately help the Falcons running game.

Matt Ryan and Julio Jones get all the hype in the Falcons offense. However, Devonta Freeman is an equally important piece of the puzzle. Adding a mauler like Nelson would only increase the effectiveness of Atlanta’s running attack.

Atlanta could also use this pick to beef up the interior of the defensive line. They brought in Dontari Poe this offseason, but only signed him to a 1-year deal. Poe will be looking for a longer term contract after the season.
