NFL Picks – Eagles at Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off the biggest win of week one as they defeated the New England Patriots on the road 42-27.  Quarterback Alex Smith outplayed Tom Brady and the Chiefs defense contained the Patriots offense.

The Chiefs also found an emerging star in rookie running back Kareem Hunt.  However, all the glory the Chiefs gained in week one could be lost if they lose in week two to the visiting Philadelphia Eagles.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson was Andy Reid’s offensive coordinator in Kansas City before going to the Eagles.  So that’s a plot line that could have an impact on the game.  Because Pederson’s Eagles also won in week one over the Washington Redskins.

His quarterback Carson Wentz was impressive as well and his size and mobility will create a huge challenge for the Chiefs defense.  The Eagles defense won’t be caught off guard by Kareem Hunt the way the Patriots were.

Which is why I think he won’t be as effective as he was in week one.  I think this will be a close game.  I think the Eagles will give the Chiefs all they handle but I think the Chiefs will pull out the home win.

Winner:   Chiefs

Score prediction:       27-23  Chiefs

Points spread:      Chiefs  -5.5

Over/under:  47.5 – Over

NFL Picks – Patriots at Saints

Here is a matchup of two future Hall of Fame quarterbacks, Tom Brady and Drew Brees, whose teams are both 0-1 and desperate for a win. The level that both of these quarterbacks play at and the desperation to win makes this a must see game.

The Patriots going 0-2 under Bill Belichick is unheard of.  The debacle against the Kansas City Chiefs in week one has undoubtedly lit a fire under the Patriots and I expect a better performance in week two.

The Saints were handled surprisingly easy by the Minnesota Vikings and they’ll be seeking a better result as they return home to the Super Dome.  However, there is internal drama in the aftermath of the game as head coach Sean Payton and running back Adrian Peterson appeared to have words during the game.

How Peterson is used will be a plot line worth watching against the Patriots.  Both teams offensive fire power has been affected by injuries, so it won’t be as high scoring as one might think.  But that won’t stop either team from being aggressive on offense.

But even though the Patriots defense got lit up by the Chiefs in week one, I expect them to improve in week 2.  Both quarterbacks will put points on the board but I think it’s Tom Brady who’s team will come out on top.

Winner:   Patriots

Score prediction:       31-24  Patriots

Points spread:      Patriots  -6.5

Over/under:  56 – Under
